  John MacArthur
Contrary to popular belief, we do not have to be perfect to do God's work. Look no further than the twelve disciples whose many weaknesses are forever preserved throughout the pages of the New Testament. Jesus chose ordinary men - fisherman, tax collectors, political zealots - and turned their weakness into strength, producing greatness from utter uselessness. MacArthur draws principles from Christ's careful, hands-on training of the original twelve disciples for today's modern disciple - you. 240 pages, softcover.

  Paul Tautges
Today, churches are increasingly placing their confidence in Christian psychology as the answer to their need for the ministry of counseling. But counseling is not primarily the work of the professional: it is a crucial way for believers in Christ to demonstrate biblical love toward one another within a gospel-centered, truth-driven, and grace-dispensing church environment. That is the main point of this book. Solidly rooted in the belief that the Scriptures are sufficient for every soul-related struggle in life, and totally committed to the truth that the Holy Spirit is competent to accomplish the work of sanctification, this paradigm-shifting book will challenge every believer. In his companion work, Counsel Your Flock, Paul concentrated on the role that teaching shepherds have in leading God's people to spiritual maturity by faithfully equipping them for effective ministry. Here he biblically presents, and thoroughly defends, every believer's responsibility to work toward God's goal to conform us to the image of His Son?a goal that will not be reached apart from a targeted form of discipleship, most often referred to as "counseling."

  Paul Tautges
?One of the surest signs of the blessing of God upon His people is the gift of spiritual shepherds who faithfully care for His flock,? writes Paul Tautges. Sadly, pastors today have become business professionals who are no longer content to shepherd their flocks by teaching the Word of God and caring for their souls, but instead farm their people out to psychological counselors, who are incapable of meeting the real needs of people. Here is an urgent appeal for teaching shepherds to return to authentic biblical ministry: to be tenacious in their study and preaching of the whole counsel of God, and tender in their application of its demands to the lives of God?s sheep through the personal and pastoral ministry of counseling. In his companion book, Counsel One Another, Paul defended the role of every believer in the discipleship process; here he concentrates on the specific ministry of pastors and elders, particularly their role in leading God?s flock to spiritual maturity and equipping it for effective service. He reminds ministers that they have a privileged responsibility to function as undershepherds for Christ, the Chief Shepherd, but those who are faithful will receive an eternal reward.

  Paul Tautges
Until the end of time, when the curse of sin is finally removed, suffering will be a large part of the human experience?and a large part of that suffering will be walking through the painful reality of death. Death is not foreign territory that ministers of grace walk upon. As a result, ?Death,? writes Paul Tautges, ?provides a natural opportunity not only for ministry to others, but also for personal growth in ministers.? Therefore, church shepherds must not waste these precious and painful occasions that God provides for the demonstration of mercy and the advantage of the gospel. This book is a treasure chest of pastoral theology that will equip ministers to reach out to those who grieve with the Christ-centered comfort of God rooted in the gospel. The theological foundation espoused here, as well as the numerous practical helps that are included, will help any servant of the Lord to point the hearts and minds of the bereaved to the ?man of sorrows? who is ?acquainted with grief? (Isa. 53:3).

Apostle of Liberty: The World-Changing Leadership of George Washington is a biography of the great man, but in truth it is more than a mere biography. It also looks at his unique personal qualities as a leader and how those qualities marked him as a leader among leaders. In doing so, it reveals a man whose greatness did not stem from oratorical skills, superior knowledge, or brilliant military tactics, but from virtue. He understood his duty and his proper role in the fledgling nation, and he pursued it with an invincible resolution. Largely, this was due to his belief that God in his providence had chosen him to lead the new nation that was founded on liberty-civil, religious, and economic-and that the experimentthat began under his leadership as president of the Constitutional Convention and was successful under his leadership in battle would prosper under his leadership and change the world if given the opportunity to succeed.

  Steven Nichols
As he did in his two other books of similar style--on Martin Luther and Jonathan Edwards--Stephen Nichols gives detailed, yet clear insight into one of the lesser-known figures of American Evangelicalism. Unlike Luther and Edwards, who lived in different time periods, J. Gresham More...Machen lived and taught closer to our modern era. He enjoyed playing football and attending baseball games, even skipping a class or two while at Princeton Seminary! But he was also very studious, and after spending a year studying in Germany became an associate professor at Princeton. His study, particularly in the area of New Testament, enabled him to teach a generation of students the heart of the gospel and stand toe-to-toe with critical scholars who would denude it of its saving power. It was this latter stance that would eventually lead to his leaving the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. One of the more touching stories was his personal ministry to a Richard Hodges, an alcoholic who became a Christian, but who continued to struggle with his alcoholism for many years. Machen found him a place to stay away from the influence of old friends and funded his rent and other living expenses for nearly 20 years. And when Hodges died, he paid for the funeral. What Nichols demonstrates from start to finish is the life of a man who lived the message of the Gospel to the fullest: He preached Jesus Christ and him crucified; taught that there can be no separation of doctrine and life; enjoyed walking in the mountains of Europe and desired that national parks and other natural resources be preserved for generations to come; engaged the culture of his day with the Christian message; and loved to entertain Princeton students on Saturday evenings with fruit and tobacco. [At that time only men attended the seminary.]

These brief lessons are based on historical people and events, with insightful questions at the end of each. They will encourage families to talk about what God has done in their lives and in the lives of Christians of years gone by. "Poignant vignettes from history are captured in fascinating word pictures. Chapters open with Scripture that is fleshed out in the lives of historical figures. The impact is more in the story told, not in the lives lived, which point either to or away from Christ." John Van Dyk, Christian Renewal "Christine is a remarkable storyteller, but it is the questions that make this book a must. Be forewarned -- they might leave you feeling exposed if you aren't setting the Christian example you should!" Jon Dykstra, Reformed Perspective "Winsomely reminds us of God's loving and wise purposes that break down the fences of our unbelief and penetrate details of history. Every adult and child will see that we are not our own, but belong body and soul, in life and death, to our Savior Jesus Christ." Norm Bomer, God's World Publications

This book is about giving hope. It is for Christian parents who are floundering in the quagmire of unbiblical and contradictory ideas concerning ADD/ADHD. It is not a book on child psychology. ADHD: Deceptive Diagnosis will present the principles of biblical parenting as they pertain to the behaviors associated with the label ADHD. In America today, children are no longer considered to be capable of control over their actions, attitudes, or thoughts. Their lack of self-discipline, self-control and self-motivations, disobedience, and bad attitudes are defined as a disease.

Do I have something for you! I just finished reading a book that I could not put down for the past three days. I didn't want it to end. Filled with spiritual truths that have profoundly challenged me, The White Gypsy exposes the idols of the heart and empowers us to overcome them. When I reached the last page, albeit it all too soon, I got up, made some tea, came back, read a sentence or two and just took the longest time before reluctantly closing the book! I know I have said this before, but trust me-this will be among the best books I have ever published! Mark Hanby, Founder of Lamplighter Publishing

"But don't it seem that some folks should have everything, and the other folks nothin'?" Charlie soon realizes that envy easily escalates to bitterness and resentment, and that his idea of "having everything" is far from the truth.

"I give orders, not take them. I am the Prince. I am the King's son!" But now Prince Hubert, who had always said and done too little, finds himself in an unfamiliar place where he is simply known as Hugh, a peasant boy. His silks and satins are replaced with rough work clothes, which he learns during his time spent with the widow of the forest.

This little book took me by surprise! When I first read it, my conscience was pricked on more than several pages. Not only are these stories penetrating, but they take you to situations that we all experience, and so often fail to see how all of life is a test of our character. Rich in practical truths, this collection of short stories reminds us that God does not always work as we expect, and He will overrule all for the best.   Iain Murray
Iain Murray is not here repeating biography but concentrating on three themes he regards of major significance. On the first of these ? the nature of true preaching ? there is fresh insight on what Lloyd-Jones regarded as of paramount importance. The analysis distinguishes between what was true of Lloyd-Jones as an individual and what is the permanent essence of powerful preaching. The second theme concerns the place that full assurance of salvation must have if Christianity is to be vibrant and persuasive; and the third addresses the claim that Lloyd-Jones?s understanding of the New Testament church was needlessly divisive. Contains previously unpublished material and a CD of Lloyd-Jones preaching from the Gospel of John.

  Iain Murray
The Bible no more knows a separate class of heroes than it does of saints. Because of Jesus Christ, every Christian is extraordinary and attains to glory. Yet grace so shines in some (as in the portraits of Hebrews II), that it lightens the path of many. As T. W. Tozer could write, 'Next to the Holy Scriptures, the greatest aid to the life of faith may be Christian biographies.' Iain Murray has already written on a number of Christians he specially admires. A few of them return to these pages, but with special reference to their thought - George Whitefield on Christian unity, for example. Most space, however, is given to little-known figures, including Robert Kalley and William Hewitson who shared in 'the greatest happening in modern missions', and to Charles and Mary Colcock Jones who took much-loved slaves with them to heaven. There is much new research in these pages, and reminders of how much is missed by those who fail to read of the work of God in history. Christians who know what Christ did 'yesterday' are energized to trust and serve him today. Iain H. Murray, cofounder of the Banner of Truth Trust in 1957, and its first editor, has served churches in London and Sydney. Currently retired, he continues to write and preach.

Professor John Murray (1898-1975) was recognized in his own lifetime as one of the leading Reformed theologians in the English-speaking world. Born in Scotland, he served in France during the First World War, before pursuing studies, first at the University of Glasgow, and then at Princeton Theological Seminary, USA. In 1929 he was invited to teach Systematic Theology at Princeton, and did so for one year, before joining the Faculty of the newly formed Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. There he shared with such scholars and Christian leaders as J. Gresham Machen and Cornelius Van Til in the great struggle to maintain the old Princeton tradition in theology, represented by the Hodges and B. B. Warfield. John Murray remained at Westminster until his retirement in 1966. He returned to his native Scotland, married and enjoyed a brief period of fatherhood prior to his death in 1974. A careful scholar, an eloquent lecturer, a moving preacher, and the author of many outstanding articles and books, Murray?s driving passions were for Christ, his Word, his cause, and his people. The Life of John Murray, published originally to accompany the four volumes of his Collected Writings is now available again separately in this popular and reset edition.

  F065 Jonathan Edwards - a new biography
$33.00
$26.40

  Iain Murray
Iain Murray believes that Edwards cannot be understood apart from his faith. Only when seen first and foremost as a Christian do his life and writings make sense. The integrity of this interpretation is confirmed in this study as Edwards is allowed on point after point to speak for himself. The result is a biography which is both factually and theologically reliable. Edwards' theology is set in the context of his everyday life in public and private. His family realtionships punctuate the narrative, adding both interest nad pathos. This outstanding study is not only an exceptional biography; it also serves as a classic illustration of how the chuch today can and should learn from its past history.

  F066 A Scottish Christian Heritage
$28.00

  Iain Murray
For 300 years a school of evangelical Christianity changed Scotland as a nation. Passing on the evangel of the Reformation, and growing stronger in persecution, it turned a people to the Bible, and finally gave many of its best sons and daughters to the ends of the earth. For fidelity, joyful perseverance in hardship, and improbable advance, the record remains a witness to the faith that overcomes the world. The compelling interest of this account lies in the way it draws on contemporary records - many of these Christian leaders being authors as well as men of action. Iain Murray's narrative explores this rich heritage and underlines its remarkable relevance for our own day. While not a Scottish Church history, this is a gripping introduction to the many glorious successes, and some of the painful failures of the church, from the days of John Knox to those of Horatius Bonar. Explaining this panoramic tapestry are the words of Knox's own commentary, 'God gave his Holy Spirit to simple men in great abundance.' As various recent publications have indicated, Scotland exercised an influence on world history out of all proportion to its size. But the real reason for this has been obscured. It will be found here, however. And in the discovery of it the reader will be introduced to a wealth of little-known literature that is a vital part of the inheritance of the whole Christian church. IAIN H. MURRAY, born of Scots parents, was educated in the Isle of Man before serving with the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in the Emergency in Malaya. After study at Durham University, he entered the Christian ministry, serving as assistant to Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones at Westminster Chapel, and subsequently as minister of Grove Chapel, London, and St. Giles, Sydney. From 1955 (to 1987) he edited the Banner of Truth magazine, and in 1957 became co-founder of the Banner of Truth Trust with which he remains closely connected.

Must prospects for succeeding generations be darker than those of today? Can we even expect any period of history to intervene before the Advent of Christ? How can readiness for Christ's coming be consistent with the belief that revivals are yet to be given to the Church? Such questons are brought to the fore in this book and the author, employing both exposition of Scripture and much historical and biographical material, sets out the case for believing that it is not 'orthodox' to indulge in gloom over the prospect for Christianity in the world.

Sin, regeneration, justification by Christ's righteousness, the cross, and the love of God, assurance of salvation - these are the truths that once thrilled churches and changed nations. Yet, where evangelicalism continues to affirm these truths, without such results, it is often assumed that she must have needs that cannot be met without something new. These addresses by Iain Murray challenge that mindset. While the Bible not history is the textbook in these pages, Murray draws on the best authors of the old evangelicalism to confirm what a glorious message the gospel is.

In the controversy arising from the promtion of this method, three main reasons have been put forward in its defence; the argument from Scripture, the 'psychological argument' which asserts the helpfulness of a public response to the individual, and a general argument as to its evangelistic effectiveness. In this booklet Iain Murray, himself an evangelical minister, examines the validity of these arguments and questions whether they can satisfactorily answer counter-arguments from Scripture and experience.
